What follows is a transcript of the 1990 remake of the Mormon Temple Endowment Ceremony. As explained in the preface, it was transcribed by a man from a recording made by a member of the LDS Church in a Mormon temple in July. , 1990. We have carefully compared the transcript with a copy of the tape and made some minor corrections to the text. Our investigation has confirmed that the transcript is an exact copy of the tape.
Although the volume of the recording we were listening to was low, the lyrics were generally very clear and easy to understand. An exception, however, was the "veil ceremony", the last part of the investiture ritual. In this part of the ritual, several people speak in low voices at the same time. While we could clearly hear the banging of the gavel and the exchange of words, we couldn't follow the conversation (the tape of the 1984 version is relatively good at this part of the ceremony. The difference between the two recordings must be where the tape recorders were located). . and the quality of the machines.)
Fortunately, the text of the "Ceremony in the Veil" in the 1990 ceremony can be accurately reconstructed from Peter's instructions to those about to pass through the veil. Peter tells those who are receiving their endowments exactly what the "Lord" will ask of them and what response they will give. With the exception of the "name" of the second sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood (which is kept secret until the last part of the ritual), the wording should be the same in both places. In other words, the following wording has already been given and is evident from the tape recording.
The man who did the transcription tells us that he consulted with the Mormon who made the transcription and was told that those words, including the "name" of the second sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood, are accurate the same as before the Mormon. Leaders change the temple ceremony in 1990.
This is the name of the sign: "Health in the navel, marrow in the bones, strength in the loins and sinews, power in the priesthood be upon me and my posterity for all generations and for ever and ever." 🇧🇷 🇧🇷
Text of the Mormon Temple Endowment Ceremony (revised 1990)
Note: According to some sources, the “First Presidency Statement” below was only read at the beginning of the ceremony for the first few months after the changes were implemented. It is no longer included in the inauguration ceremony.
INTRODUCTORY ANNOUNCEMENT: Before we begin the endowment service, we present the following First Presidency statement.
FIRST PRESIDENCY STATEMENT: Since the temple endowment was first administered in this dispensation, the First Presidency and Council of the Twelve have made minor changes from time to time, acting together in their capacity as prophets, seers, and revelators.
After careful and lengthy consideration and much solemn prayer in the Salt Lake Temple Upper Room, the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve recently made changes to the endowment ceremony. Those of you familiar with the ceremony will recognize that these changes do not affect the content of the endowment's teachings or the covenants involved.
As with other aspects of the endowment, you have a solemn obligation not to discuss these sacred matters outside of the temple.
Blessed be the Lord for the selfless service you render in His holy house. Sincerely, the First Presidency.
FIRST SPEAKER: Brothers and sisters, we welcome you to the temple and hope that you will find joy in serving in the house of the Lord today. Those of you who are here to receive your own endowment should have been washed, anointed, and clothed in the robes of the Holy Priesthood. For those representing deceased persons, the ablutions, anointing, and clothing of the Holy Priesthood along with ordination on behalf of deceased brethren were formerly performed. Each of you must have been given a new name in connection with this enterprise. If any of you have forgotten the New Name or have not received these ordinances as explained, please stand up. (break)
During the endowment presentation, be vigilant, attentive, and reverent. When prompted to go to the veil, proceed in an orderly manner, line by line, as directed. After passing through the veil into the heavenly realm and other areas of the temple, when you need to communicate, whisper, helping us to maintain the quiet reverence that should prevail in the house of the Lord. Now we come to the presentation of the foundation.
(The lights are dimmed at this point.)
SECOND NARRATOR: Brethren, you have been washed and declared clean, that is, by your faithfulness you can be cleansed from the blood and sins of this generation. Ye were anointed kings and priests of the Most High God to rule and reign over the house of Israel forever.
Sisters, you were washed and anointed to become queens and priestesses to your husbands.
Brothers and sisters, if you are faithful and faithful, the day will come when you will be chosen, called, and anointed to be kings and queens, priests and priestesses, while you are anointed to be kings and queens now. The realization of these blessings depends on your faithfulness.

Words, signs and signs pertaining to the Holy Priesthood and obtain your eternal exaltation.
As you go forth and receive your full endowment, you will be bound to make sacred commitments, violation of which will bring the judgment of God upon you; for God cannot be mocked. Let lights appear in the firmament; the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night. Let the stars also appear and give light to the earth and other worlds created so far. On the third day call your works and bring me news.
JEHOVAH: It shall be done, Elohim. Come on Miguel, let's go back to the country we organized.
MICHAEL: We'll be back, Jehovah.
JEHOVAH: Michael, let's separate the light from the darkness, and we're going to call the light "day" and the darkness "night." We will cause stars to appear in the firmament, the larger ones to rule the day and the smaller ones to rule the night. Command animals, birds, fish, insects, all reptiles and other forms of animal life to multiply in their respective elements, each according to its kind, and multiply in its sphere all kinds of vegetation that any life form can fill in its creation , and enjoy it. Summon your works on the fifth day and bring me tidings.
JEHOVAH: It shall be done, Elohim. Come on Michael, let's go downstairs.
MICHAEL: We're going down, sir.
JEHOVAH: Michael, now that the earth is formed, divided, beautified, and vegetation is growing upon it, we are going to put animals on the earth: the elephant, the lion, the tiger, the bear, the horse, and all other kinds of animals. 🇧🇷 Birds in the air in all their variations, fish of all kinds in the waters and insects and all kinds of animal life on land. ELOHIM: Why do you call her Eve?
ADAM: Because she is the mother of all living.
ELOHIM: That is correct, Adam; for she is the mother of all living. We have decreed this land for you and planted a garden in Eden in the east. ELOHIM: Adam, Eve, we created this earth and placed all kinds of plant and animal life on it. We command them all to multiply in their own sphere and element. We give you dominion over all these things and make you, Adam, lord of the whole earth and everything on it. Now we command you to multiply and fill the earth so that you may have joy and delight in your offspring. We have also created this garden for you in which we have placed all kinds of fruits, flowers and plants. (Adam and Eve survey the garden, examining the plant and animal life. Adam peeks over a bush hedge and smiles when he sees a lion sprawled lazily on the ground. When Lucifer introduces himself in the next scene, he is in the shadow as he begins to speak and then steps into the light. Lucifer wears black and gray clothing with a cloak. ADAM: Eva, do you know what that fruit is?
EVE: Yes, it is the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
ADAM: I can't be a part of that. Don't you know that the Father commanded us not to eat of the fruit of this tree?
EVA: Do you intend to follow all of the Father's commandments?
ADAM: Yes, everyone.
EVE: Don't you remember that the father told us to multiply and fill the earth? I have eaten of this fruit and for this I am expelled and you are left alone as a man in the Garden of Eden.
ADAM: Eve, I see where that should be. I will participate so that is the man.
(Adam takes a bite and Lucifer walks over to him with an appreciative look.)
LUCIFER: That is correct.
EVA: We better go through the pain so we can tell right from wrong.
EVA: I know you now. You are Lucifer, the one who was expelled from the Father's presence because of rebellion.
LUCIFER: Yes, you are already beginning to see it.
ADAM: What's that apron you're wearing?
(Lucifer lifts his cloak to reveal a black apron.)
LUCIFER: It is an emblem of my power and priesthood.

ELOHIM: Jehovah, we promised Adam and Eve that we would visit them and give them further instructions. Come on, let's go down.

LUCIFER: If you curse me for doing the same things that have been done in other worlds, I will take the spirits that follow me and they will possess the bodies you created for Adam and Eve!
ELOHIM: I will put enmity between you and the seed of the woman. You may have the power to bruise his heel, but he will have the power to crush your head.
LUCIFER: Then with this enmity I will take the treasures of the earth, and with gold and silver I will buy armies and armies, false priests who oppress and tyrants who destroy and rule the earth with blood and terror!
ELOHIM: Party!
(Thunder cracks and the storm ceases as Lucifer looks defiantly at Elohim, then turns and walks away.)

JEHOVAH: It shall be done, Elohim.
(Jehovah commands and a light shines through the tree.)
JEHOVAH: Cherubim and a flaming sword will be set up to guard the way to the tree of life, lest Adam and Eve stretch out their hands and eat of its fruit and live in their sins forever. It is finished Elohim.
ELOHIM: Adam, because you ate the forbidden fruit, the earth will be cursed because of you. Instead of spontaneously producing fruits and flowers, it will put forth thorns, thistles, thorns, and weeds to plague and torment man. THE LAW OF OBEDIENCE

ADAM: Elohim, I promise you now that from now on I will obey your law and keep your commandments.
ELOHIM: All right. Ever since Adam and Eve discovered their nakedness, Jehovah made tunics out of skin to cover them.
JEHOVAH: It shall be done, Elohim.
(At this point the film stops and the lights come on.)
NARRATOR: Brothers and sisters, the garment they put on you in the laundry is meant to cover your nakedness and represents the tunic of skin spoken of. The official will represent Elohim at the altar. A couple will now come to the altar.
(A pre-selected “pair of witnesses” now step forward and kneel in front of the altar, placing their hands on it while facing the minister. The minister mimes all movements and gestures as a model for the visitors when asked to do so.)
NARRATOR: Brothers and sisters, this couple represents you all as if you were walking down the aisle. You must see yourself as if you were Adam or Eve.
ELOHIM: Let us put every sister under a covenant to obey the law of the Lord and to listen to her husband's counsel as her husband listens to the father's counsel. Sisters, rise up.
(Sponsors stand as instructed.)
ELOHIM: Each of you square your right arm. THE LAW OF SACRIFICE
ELOHIM: Brothers and sisters, we will now pledge to you to obey and keep the sacrificial law as contained in the Scriptures. This sacrificial law was given to Adam in the Garden of Eden, who, being expelled from the Garden, built an altar on which he offered sacrifices; and after many days an angel of the Lord appeared to Adam and said, "Why do you sacrifice to the Lord?" Adam said, "I don't know unless the Lord tells me." And then the angel spoke and said, “This is a type of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten of the Father, which is full of grace and truth. Therefore whatever you do, do it in the name of the Son and do this. "repent and call on God in the name of the Son forever and ever."
The descendants from Adam to Moses and from Moses to Jesus Christ sacrificed the firstfruits of the field and the firstfruits of the flock, which continued until the death of Jesus Christ, which ended with the sacrifice of bloodshed. And just as Jesus Christ gave His life for the redemption of mankind, we must vow to sacrifice all we have, even our own life if necessary, to uphold and defend the kingdom of God.

The first sign of the Aaronic Priesthood
ELOHIM: We will now give you the first sign of the Aaronic Priesthood with your name and the corresponding sign. Before we do so, we wish to impress upon you the sanctity of the First Sign of the Aaronic Priesthood, with its name and mark, and all other signs of the Holy Priesthood, with its name and mark, as you choose, received in the temple that day. They are very sacred and are protected by solemn covenants and commitments made in the presence of God, the angels, and these witnesses to keep them sacred, and you are not to reveal them under any circumstances except at a designated place in the temple, that will be shown to you.

PETER: Brethren, this is the veil of the temple. Now I will explain the markings on the veil. These four marks are the marks of the Holy Priesthood, and the corresponding marks are found on their individual garments.
On the right is the square mark. Located on the vest to the right of the chest, it suggests rigor and honor to the spirit in fulfilling the agreements made that day.
On the left is the compass mark. It is placed in the mantle over the left breast and suggests to the spirit an unswerving path that leads to eternal life, a constant reminder that desires, desires and passions must be kept within the limits set by the Lord and that all truth this can be paraphrased to a large whole.
This is the navel mark. Placed on the garment above the navel, it suggests to the spirit the need for constant nourishment for the body and spirit.
This is the knee mark. It is placed on the right leg of the garment so that it rests on the kneecap, suggesting that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is the Christ.
These other three marks are meant to make working on the veil easier. Through them the person representing the Lord stretches out his right hand to test our knowledge of the signs of the Holy Priesthood. He asks us certain questions through the one on our right, and we give our answers through the one on the left.
(As the officiant, now representing Peter, approaches the front of the veil, another male worker stands behind him to represent the Lord. A hammer hangs from the metal frame that supports the veil.)
PETER: Since you all have to go through the veil, we'll show you how. The person is brought to this point and the worker gives three different blows with the hammer. (The officer hits the mallets three times.) Then the Lord opens the veil and asks:
LORD: What do you want?
PETER: Adam, who was faithful and faithful in all things, desires more light and knowledge by speaking to the Lord through the veil.
LORD: Present him in the veil, and your request will be granted.
PETER: The person is brought to this point, then the Lord extends His right hand and gives the First Sign of the Aaronic Priesthood and asks:
LORD: What is that?
PETER: The first sign of the Aaronic Priesthood.
MR: Do you have a name?

PETER: I will, through the veil.
PETER: The person then names through the veil the name of that sign, which is the New Name received in the temple today. The Lord then gives the Second Sign of the Aaronic Priesthood and asks:
LORD: What is that?
PETER: The second sign of the Aaronic Priesthood.
MR: Do you have a name?
Peter hat.
LORD: will you give it to me?
PETER: I will, through the veil.
PETER: The person then gives the name of that character, which is their first name, when going through the temple for their own endowment or when going through the dead, it's the person's first name. for whom he officiates. The Lord then gives the first sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood, or nail mark, and asks:
LORD: What is that?
PETER: The first mark of the Melchizedek Priesthood, or mark of the nail.
MR: Do you have a name?

PETER: The person then gives the name of that sign, which is "the Son," meaning the Son of God. The Lord then gives the second sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the patriarchal fist, or sure sign of the nail, and asks:
LORD: What is that?
PETER: The second sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the patriarchal embrace, or the sure sign of the nail.
MR: Do you have a name?
Peter hat.
LORD: will you give it to me?
Pete: I can't. I still haven't received it. That's why I came to speak to the Lord through the veil.
LORD You will receive it through the veil.
PETER: It is received when the left arms are placed through the veil on the right shoulders.
(The officiant places his left arm over the compass marking and places his hand on the Lord's right shoulder, while the Lord places his left arm over the square marking and places his hand on the officiant's right shoulder. The right hand remains in the footprint of the Lord patriarchs entangled .)
PETER: The Lord then names this sign and asks:
LORD: What is that?
PETER: The second sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the patriarchal embrace, or the sure sign of the nail.
MR: Do you have a name?
Peter hat.
LORD: will you give it to me?
PETER: I will, through the veil.
PETER: The person then repeats to the Lord the name of that mark as it is received, whereupon the Lord says:
MR: That is correct.
PETER: The person is brought back to that point and the worker gives three single blows with the hammer. The Lord opens the veil and asks:
LORD: What do you want?
PETER: Adam, having communicated with the Lord through the veil, now desires to come into His presence.
PETER: The Lord stretches out His right hand, takes the person by the right hand and says:
LORD: Come in.
PETER: He is admitted into the presence of the Lord. Now we report. Jehovah, We descended to Adam and Eve and their seed to the earthly world and gave them the law of consecration and caused them to conceive by covenant. We have given you the second sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the Patriarchal Fist or Safe Nail Sign, and its associated sign and taught you the order of prayer. You are now ready to speak to the Lord through the veil. This is our report.
JEHOVAH: All right, Pedro, Santiago and Juan. Elohim - Peter James and John descended to join Adam and Eve and their descendants in the physical world and did whatever they were commanded.
ELOHIM: All right. Jehovah, instruct Peter, James, and John to introduce Adam and Eve and their seed into the veil, where we will call them the Second Sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the Patriarchal Embrace, or the Sure Sign of the Nail, in preparation for their entry into our present.

VEIL CEREMONY
(At this point, a temple worker points out the patrons, line by line, directing them to the various segments of the veil. A worker stands at each segment to introduce the patron to the "Lord" on the other side of the veil. The worker gives along three different blows with the hammer.)
LORD: What do you want?
WORKER: Adam, who was faithful and faithful in all things, desires more light and knowledge and speaks to the Lord through the veil. [for and on behalf of _____ who is deceased].
LORD: Present him in the veil, and your request will be granted.

SKIPPER: Tem.
LORD: will you give it to me?
PATRON: I will, through the veil (the Patron gives the first name of the person for whom the temple work is being done).
(The Lord gives the first sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood.)
LORD: What is that?
PATRONUS: The first sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood or sign of the nail.
MR: Do you have a name?
SKIPPER: Tem.
LORD: will you give it to me?
PATRONUS: I become, through the veil: the son.
(The Lord gives the second sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood.)
LORD: What is that?
PATRONUS: The second sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the patriarchal fist or sure sign of the nail.
MR: Do you have a name?
SKIPPER: Tem.
LORD: will you give it to me?
CAPTAIN: I can't. I still haven't received it. That's why I came to speak to the Lord through the veil.
LORD You will receive it through the veil.
(The Lord and the Patronus, still holding the hilt, pass their left arms through the compass and the square markings cut into the veil. The Patronus' left arm goes through the compass marking, and the Patronus' left arm, the Lord's left hand, goes through the square mark. They place their left hand on the other's right shoulder.)
LORD: This is the name of the sign: "Health in the navel, marrow in the bones, strength in the loins and sinews, authority in the priesthood be upon me and upon my posterity for generations and for ever."
LORD: What is that?
PATRONUS: The second sign of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the patriarchal fist or sure sign of the nail.
MR: Do you have a name?
SKIPPER: Tem.
LORD: will you give it to me?
PATRONUS: Through the veil, health in the navel, marrow in the bones, strength in loins and sinews, the power of the priesthood be upon me and my posterity through all generations and for all eternity. 🇧🇷
MR: That is correct.
(The Lord and Patron break the ceremonial embrace and the temple worker strikes the gavel three times.)
LORD: What do you want?
WORKER: Having communicated with the Lord through the veil, Adam now desires to come into His presence.
LORD: Come in.
(The veil is now open and the Lord takes the pattern in His right hand and gently draws it through the veil into the heavenly hall.)
Additional Note: At this point, the ceremony is officially over and participants are encouraged to sit or be silent in the heavenly space and "feel the Spirit." The Celestial Room is lavishly decorated with mirrors, a crystal chandelier, plush chairs, sofas and rugs, all in light beige and white tones.
