Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (2023)

Boma, Flavors of Africa is a restaurant at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. And it's not just any restaurant. It is the best buffet of all.

In this boma breakfast review, we take a closer look at the breakfast buffet. I have had the opportunity to eat here several times since the restaurant reopened.

Boma, Flavors of Africa is exceptional when it comes to buffets.

Yes, that is correct. The restaurant serves an expanded breakfast buffet in the morning and a dinner buffet in the evening.

When I heard it was reopening I immediately went online and made a reservation. And that is a testament to how good this dining experience really is.

I rarely go back to restaurants that I have already reviewed. From a blog's point of view, that makes little sense.

If you've visited Boma for breakfast before, you know what I mean when I say the buffet is exceptional. And that from someone who is not usually interested in buffets.

Let's take an updated look at what you can expect.

This article was last updated on February 17, 2022.

First of all, Boma's breakfast buffet usually has around 75 items. Some of these items are gluten free and accommodate food allergies. If you have cross contamination issues, a chef will come out to take your order and prepare it separately.

In addition, vegans will find a selection of items to meet their dietary needs. Vegan dishes are marked with a green leaf on the sign. Here is an example.

The buffet offers a wide variety of meats, breads, vegetables, salads (for breakfast!), traditional breakfast items, specialties and much more. If you continue to the end, I have updated a list of all the items available at the breakfast buffet on the Boma menu.

Review on Boma Breakfast

Boma is located on the lower level of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. The complex consists of two parts.

The first section is Jambo House, the main lodge of the complex, where the boma is located. The second is Kidani Village, the vacation club section of the resort.

I mention this because if you take a bus or go to Boma for breakfast, you should know that there are two different buildings. At Jambo House you can park or get off at the bus stop.

Disney buses take guests to both resorts. The bus driver will make an announcement before each stop so guests can prepare to disembark.

After entering the hostel, head towards the center to the right of the lobby area. To your right are elevators and this grand staircase. You can take anyone to the lower level.

In fact, Boma is where I took the photo above. Once you get off at the lowest level, you can't miss it. The complex is also located in this area.author restaurantLage, Jiko.

At the time of this update, the breakfast buffet at the Boma is $29 per adult and $17 per child, plus tax and tip. The restaurant serves breakfast between 7:30 am and 11:00 am. Can you confirm the prices?herenowhere to disney.

As for Boma, I consider him one of theBest breakfast at Disney World🇧🇷 To this day I think the buffet here is much better than in most restaurants.

for example our food'Ohana's Breakfast Characteris inBreakfast of Princess AkershusIt wasn't that good. By comparison, the Boma lacks character, but the selection of food more than makes up for it.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (6)

Also, Boma has a great atmosphere and a more casual, relaxed breakfast. Because Boma doesn't serve lunch, there's no rush to leave the buffet or grab last-minute items from the buffet if you make a late-morning reservation.

Boma Buffet Breakfast

Since the breakfast buffet at Boma is huge, I decided to make a video of my last visit. Unfortunately, it's not easy to accurately represent what's available between the lighting, the guests, and the cast.

You may be wondering if anything has changed since Boma reopened. You'll be glad to know that not much has changed.

After ordering my drinks, the server mentioned the major changes. One change was that the chefs no longer offered made-to-order omelettes. And the other difference was that the French bread pudding was in a different place on the counter than before.

Those things were accurate. However, being a lover of all things boma, I noticed a few other items were missing.

First, let's take a look at the bread department. Be careful. There is a lot of bread in Boma.

The best selections of these fabulous carbs (not diet-friendly, I'm sure) are at the end of the buffet line. But sometimes it's fun to try a little sugar before the salty, so here we are.

Below is a photo of the bread department before Boma closed.

And here is the same section from my last visit. No changes were observed in this area either.

This portion of the buffet consisted of a variety of bagels, wheat bread, white bread, croissants, and toppings. Toppings included cream cheese, peanut butter, African chocolate spread with hazelnuts, jams and butter.

I guess African Chocolate Hazelnut Spread is the same as Nutella. However, I did not try any of these items because there were so many options.

The next carb station included a variety of muffins and cakes. Here is the before photo.

And here is the updated version of Boma's breakfast buffet. There are no big changes here either.

However, after looking at my photos, I realized that I had never eaten Boma bread pudding. On my previous visits to the Boma, I always opted for a sweet bun or donut.

I love the donuts in the boma. Unfortunately they were no longer available. Here's a before photo.

Instead, cinnamon rolls now have their regular place.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (12)

Luckily sticky buns were left over for days! They'll probably stay with you for days, if we're being honest. But calories don't count on vacation, do they?

A photo before.

And so. Again, that's the bread pudding on the right. Actors constantly had to replace him. There is also a vanilla sauce for drizzling.

Also, it's a caramel sauce on the sticky buns front. As if they needed anything else.

Boma is a four-letter word for carbohydrates, in case you haven't figured it out yet.

A toaster is at the end of the buffet row if you prefer your bread hot and crisp.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (15)

Our next stop at the buffet is to taste the different meat options. You will notice that the meat is spread out in several areas. Based on this review, I revised and compiled them.

Boma has a lot of bacon and sausage. This is the previous image.

And from my last visit.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (17)

All this was as before. The two potato options are Afritude dumplings and West African plantains.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (18)

No, I didn't make it up. They are named after the character Afritude Tots. And these bananas are delicious. Be sure to try them.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (19)

There is a carving station that used to offer various meat dishes.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (20)

Ham was the only carved meat available on this recent visit. You will definitely want to try the prosciutto along with the boma mustard.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (21)

Sometimes I think about that mustard. It is sweet and spicy at the same time, making it the perfect accompaniment to ham. I'm sure you understand the feeling if you've experienced it before.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (22)

As the Boma buffet includes various African cuisines, various specialties are available. Unfortunately the corned beef hash pictured below was not available.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (23)

While I really enjoyed my meal at the Boma, that's the one thing I really missed.

However, the turkey bobotie remains a buffet staple. This bobotie dish reminds me of a breakfast casserole. I thought it would be an excellent option.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (24)

Previously, turkey bobotie would sit alongside chakalaka, a savory South African tomato stew. And further down was the porridge, which is creamy white cornmeal.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (25)

Both items are still available. Pap is another top item on my list. It has a creamy and grainy consistency. However, the texture is slightly different.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (26)

Vegetables are in the same section of the breakfast buffet. Next we find grilled asparagus and oak-grilled Roma tomatoes. The asparagus has a nice smoky flavor and it was a lovely product. I don't eat tomatoes, so I can't help you.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (27)

The next section of the buffet has changed significantly. There used to be quite a large selection of meats and cheeses, as well as smoked salmon and sides.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (28)

Now the area has some meats and cheeses, as well as soft-boiled and hard-boiled eggs.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (29)

Instead of smoked salmon, there are boiled eggs with smoked salmon.

There were berry yogurt parfaits. You used to be able to mix and match different items to create a custom parfait.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (31)

Another specialty that Boma is known for is the watermelon rind salad. Unfortunately it was not available on this visit. However, they had a new product, watermelon with mint and pistachio crumbs.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (32)

This combination was excellent!

In the same area was an avocado, grapefruit and papaya salad.

Next, let's look at some traditional dishes for the less adventurous guests in the family. Previously, biscuits and gravy were available.

Now there is a large department with eggs. Eggs are prepared two ways at the buffet, plain scrambled and whatever the "scrambled egg of the day" is.

Instead of having a do-it-yourself omelette station, different preparations are made. Guests can choose the one they prefer.

Kids and adults alike will appreciate the abundance of Mickey-shaped waffles.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (38)

There were also plain pancakes and blueberry pancakes. The blueberry pancakes looked as if the berries had fallen into the batter in the shape of a hidden Mickey.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (39)

On previous visits there was a cereal section with oats and quinoa, as well as toppings.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (40)

Now there was regular oatmeal with toppings and no quinoa.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (41)

There was something new though, coconut steel cut oats. Being a fan of oatmeal, I opted for a piece of the coconut variant.

You may notice a small jar of green Le Creuset honey in front of your plate. I drizzled it over my oatmeal and it was the most unbelievably delicious bite. I will definitely try to make it at home.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (42)

One of the best things about breakfast at the Boma is that drinks are included. An artist will bring you water upon arrival and ask what you would like to drink.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (43)

Unfortunately, the old Jungle Juice was not available this time. I believe this is also commonly known as POG juice. POG stands for passion fruit, orange juice and guava.

As I understand it, it's hard to outsource at the moment, but I hope it will come back at some point. And I imagine that's the case for many of the missing items. Therefore, they are likely to return in the future.

Boma Breakfast Review, Flavors of Africa (44)

Would I let a few missing items keep me from having breakfast at the boma? No way. I am already dreaming of my next visit.

Final Thoughts on Breakfast at the Boma

If you consider yourself a foodie or just looking for a place to enjoy a good breakfast, you should definitely consider Boma, Flavors of Africa.

Prepare to walk away from this dining experience and take some time to recover while you eat. I usually start with one dish for the savory buffet, followed by a second course for the sweet ones, I mean the sticky buns.

The artists behind the buffet are constantly working to restock the plates. They are happy to help you if you need help.

Since the restaurant is almost always full, the food is fresh. So you don't have to worry about anything that's been around for a while.

My other favorite breakfast place is Ale and Compass at Disney's Yacht Club. I eat breakfast there almost every time I stay at the property and they keep updating it with new items.
